Hi I’m Ayanna, the woman behind Canvas Kit
For the record, I’m not an artist. I’m just a girl who really loves to paint.
Canvas Kit started from my own love of creating and the feeling I get when I sit down with a canvas, some paint and nowhere else I need to be for a little while.
I’ve always believed creativity should feel good — not intimidating, overly serious or reserved for people who consider themselves “artists.” You shouldn’t need to know how to sketch, understand colour theory or stare at a blank canvas wondering where to start.
Sometimes you just want to paint.
That idea became Canvas Kit: Art Made Easy.
I wanted to make the fun part easier to get to.
Every Canvas Kit starts with a pre-drawn canvas, a thoughtfully chosen paint palette and everything you need to sit down and start creating.
A lot of our designs are inspired by Alberta, the Canadian Rockies and the places that made this island girl fall in love with the mountains. Others are inspired by seasons, everyday moments and simply creating something I'd genuinely want to paint myself.
I paint the designs too. I test them, tweak them, occasionally decide something absolutely needs to be redone, and keep refining until the experience feels approachable for someone picking up a paintbrush for the first time.
Because the goal was never perfection.
It’s that little moment when you look at something you made and think, wait…I actually made that.
From my hands to yours.
Canvas Kit started small, and a lot of it still happens very personally.
Behind the pretty kits is me designing, painting, packing boxes, writing notes, prepping for markets, filling tiny paint pots and doing all the very unglamorous things that come with building a creative business.
And I actually love that you get to see some of that.
What started as paint kits has grown into Paint Nights, corporate experiences, the Pocket Art Bar, retail partnerships and creative experiences that have allowed me to watch hundreds of people sit down, make something and connect with each other in the process.
That might be my favourite part of all of this.
